The Mughal Empire
The next 1,000 years were a time of great conflict in India. Muslims
(MUHZ-luhmz) invaded India several times. In 1526, India came under
Muslim control from central Asia. Then, Mongols (MAHN-guhlz)
invaded northern India. They began an empire called the Mughal
(MUH-guhl) Empire. Their first leader was Babur (BAH-buhr).
Babur was a strong leader.
