         accuser        someone who says that someone else has done something
                        wrong or illegal
         aristocrat     someone at the top of society, who usually has land,
                        money and power
         carriage       a vehicle for passengers, pulled by horses
         cell           a small room in a prison

         citizen        someone who lives in a town, city or country
         coach          a closed carriage, usually for long journeys

         court          a building where trials are held
         courtroom      a room where trials are held
         emigrant       someone who leaves their country to live in another one

         execute        to kill someone as a punishment
         faint          to suddenly become unconscious
         gentleman      in old times, a man from a high social class

         guilty         someone who has broken the law
         hang           to kill someone by putting a rope around their neck and
                        letting them fall

         influence       when someone or something can change what another
                        person does or thinks
         injustice      when people are not treated fairly
         innocent       a person who is not guilty of any crime

         knit           to make clothes out of wool using long sticks to tie the
                        wool together
         lawyer         a person who gives advice or services concerning the law,
                        e.g. when there is a court case
         Madame         French for Mrs

         Marquis        the title of a French aristocrat
